Add a Feedback Widget to WordPress

Pintelly adds a visual feedback button, analytics and optional session replay to a WordPress site with one script tag. There is no Pintelly plugin to install: the script goes into the site's <head>, and it works with any theme and page builder.

Before you start, add the site as a project in Pintelly and copy its installation snippet from Project Settings. It looks like this:

<script
  type="module"
  src="https://pintelly.com/cdn/feedback-module.es.js"
  data-backend="https://pintelly.com"
  crossorigin="anonymous"
></script>

A header code plugin keeps the script when you update or switch themes.

  1. In WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New and install a header and footer code plugin, such as WPCode.
  2. Open the plugin's header settings (in WPCode: Code Snippets → Header & Footer).
  3. Paste the Pintelly snippet into the Header box and save.

On WordPress.com, installing plugins needs a plan that allows them. On a plan without plugins, use Option 2 only if your plan allows theme editing.

Option 2: the theme's header.php

Use a child theme for this, otherwise the next theme update removes the script.

  1. Go to Appearance → Theme File Editor and pick your child theme.
  2. Open header.php and paste the snippet just before </head>.
  3. Click Update File.

Caching and optimization plugins

Plugins that delay, combine or minify JavaScript (for example "delay JavaScript execution" settings) can stop the widget from loading. Exclude feedback-module.es.js from those features, then clear the plugin's cache.

Check that it works

  1. Open the live site in a private window, so no cache or signed-in state hides the change.
  2. The feedback button should appear in the corner of the page. Click it, pin a comment on any element and send it.
  3. Open the project in Pintelly. The feedback item should be there with its screenshot, and the visit should show up under Analytics within a minute.

If the button doesn't appear, open the browser console. A Content Security Policy error means your site must allow https://pintelly.com in script-src and connect-src. If there is no error, a caching or script-optimization layer may still be serving the old page: clear it and reload.

Next: choose widget visibility, appearance and consent handling in Project Settings. See Consent if you use a cookie banner.
