What this traceroute actually does
We send probes with increasing TTL and record which router answers at each step, up to 24 hops, one probe per hop with a two-second wait.
A trace that ends on the target IP passes. Silent hops (*) are common and not scored unless the destination never answers. Pintelly's main product is the feedback widget.
What we look at
Destination reached
The last hop must be the target IP.
Hop count
Fifteen or fewer passes; more than 22 fails.
Latency at destination
Round-trip on the last answering hop.
Silent hops
How many routers did not answer.
